Help! I Don’t Know What to Write - Part 3 of 4
In this part of the series, “Help! I Don’t Know What to Write,” you’ll create a quick list to get you started on generating endless article writing ideas.
Have you noticed that it’s much more difficult to make a decision when you have ten choices than when you have only two or three?
One of the reasons it can be so hard to pick a topic to write about is because you’re considering too many different topics at once. So in this step of the exercise, you’ll narrow your focus and make it easier to get started.
Step 2. List the specific problems or concerns you are asked about most often.
Start making a list of all the questions you’ve answered for clients and prospects on your topic of expertise.
Here are some ideas to start:
• What questions have you answered in the last week?
• What questions do you get asked most often?
• What are the three most common problems you help people solve?
• What questions have you answered by email in the last 3 months?
• What questions have you answered lately in forums or blogs?
Remember in step one when you made yourself aware that you can’t see the forest because of the trees? It’s not until you start answering questions and helping others that you begin to realize just how much you actually know.
But in doing this exercise, you don’t want to become overwhelmed with all the possibilities. You want to focus on just a few choices at a time. You can always do the exercise at another time to generate more ideas.
Take the list you’ve just compiled and refine it by removing duplicates. You will now have a list of the topics your niche most wants to know about. And that is a great place to start.
